In Search of Morally Serious Persons: David Dark

In Search of Morally Serious Persons: David Dark

This conversation takes a broad look at American culture, ranging from music to movies to literature to politics. Throughout his career, our guest David Dark has pulled all of these elements into his religious analysis of our nation, viewed through a lens of the Gospel.

Dark’s recent book, The Possibility of America, offers a list of symptoms in the current American malady of “the military-industrial-entertainment complex.” Through it all, Dark’s wit and hospitality offer a beacon to the reader. He helps us see Jesus in the eye of the storm, and to row the boat a little in that direction.

David Dark is Assistant Professor of Religion and the Arts at Belmont University. In addition to writing The Gospel according to America, he is the author of Life’s Too Short to Pretend You’re Not Religious, The Sacredness of Questioning Everything, and Everyday Apocalypse. His work has appeared in Pitchfork, Paste, and America Magazine.
